The lawyers together with the ‘Kujri’ Center in Kamza have been representing the Laknas residents for the past two years in their legal battle against the operation of a slaughterhouse in a wooded area which they had planted and maintained themselves by volunteering their hard work.
In February 2020, the lawyers started attending hearings of a court case initiated by more than 40 residents of Kamza against a business project, which would have completely and irreversibly damaged a public forest. The forest was planted during the last 50 years by the residents, who are cooperating for its maintenance. Together with ‘Kujri’ Center and the ‘ATA’ Group activists, the lawyers initiated a legal and civic movement to achieve the change of this land classification in cadastral registers from ‘gravel’ to ‘forest’. The lawyers held two meetings with the Mayor of the Kamza Municipality, where they submitted a request to not renew the construction permit in favour of the private company.
The Administrative Court of First Instance decided to suspend the construction of the slaughterhouse in the area called “Plepat e Brukes” in Laknas, Kamza, but the Administrative Court of Appeal decided to overthrow the decision of the Administrative Court of First Instance.
On November 9, 2021, The High Court decided to uphold the decision on interim measures of the Administrative Court of First Instance which had temporarily suspended the construction of the slaughterhouse in the area called “Plepat e Brukes” in Laknas, Kamza.
The Tirana Administrative Court of First Instance decided to abolish the decision which approved the construction of the slaughterhouse in the area called “Plepat e Brukes” in Laknas, Kamza.
The lawyers initiated a process which aims to change the cadastral classification of the land from “gravel” to “forest”, which would guarantee the current state of the property, thus making it impossible for the current project to be built. The same would apply to other projects in the future. This initiative is being implemented in cooperation with the activists of “ATA” Group, the “Kujri” Centre and area residents
